How to modify /etc/hosts?

I would like to add/modify some lines to /etc/hosts. How I could achieve that as apparently I shouldn’t be touching it.

The file starts with this

DO NOT EDIT. All changes will be overwritten by cache-hive-ip

Are you trying to setup a computer cluster and were you able to figure this out? I was able to get around this by editing cache-hive-ip but you gotta be careful when doing this.
