No fan control for GTX 1060

Hi guys,

I’m trying to take advantage of an older rig, and tip my toes in mining.

I struggle with temperature, I have an MSI, running the latest hiveos (0.6-207@210808) and latest Nvidia drivers (465.31).

I have tried downgrading both drivers and hiveos, and using beta for hiveos, playing around with Autofan and putting 0 (auto) or 100% in the fan field, with no luck.

Here are the info I’m getting

There you go!

Strange GPU … like from laptop. What the model?

It’s a GS63VR 7RF STEALTH PRO

Ahhh so this is a laptop. Well then, as a rule, the control possibilities are very limited. At least based on the information provided above, you cannot control the fan (because GPU doesn’t have own) and the Power Limit (limited by GPU VBIOS)

I see, thanks for clarifying that.

There is an application call Dragon Center that allows control over the fans, but it’s windows only. I did find some alternatives for Linux, but HiveOS wouldn’t let me install anything.

I’ve also made sure I have the latest BIOS installed, but like you mentioned, the settings are limited.

in most cases such application exists only for Windows

Agreed. There is someone that made some progress to “port” MSI control on Linux: GitHub - YoCodingMonster/OpenFreezeCenter: For Those running Linux Distro on MSI laptops. This is the
